Rushmore's opening sequence is different to normal sequences. usually at the start of most films there is a massive long list of peoples names, but this one, there are only a few at the start, the main company's who made it, Until it gets to about 5 minutes into the clip, it isn't really titles, but what this max fellow does, or has done, even though the principle or head of the school just said he was the worst student they have ever had.
The start is setting the scene, making you think that he is a maths nerd right at the start, making you believe that he is this clever cocky guy who reads the paper in a maths lesson showing that he can't learn anything from his teacher, then he wakes up to find out that it is all a dream.
